Iran’s military doctrine is based on ‘active deterrence’: Rouhani

TEHRAN – President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday that the Iranian military doctrine is based on “active deterrence and establishment of peace, not attacking people and assaulting children.”
Rouhani made the remarks in an apparent reference to the Saudi-led airstrikes against the Yemeni people while addressing a ceremony to commemorate National Army Day.“This deterrence is meant to be utilized to establish peace and security in the country and in the region. The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are the mightiest and greatest armed forces of the region thanks to their self-reliance, self-dependence, and innovation,” Rouhani told the ceremony in which Iran’s version of the S-300 missile defense system, Bavar-373, was displayed.
He said the Iranian Army is a model and mighty one that seeks to teach other armies that they should not pursue the policy of sowing discord in the region and attacking the oppressed children, women, and the elderly as there is no honor in such an action.
Underscoring that attacking the oppressed people would bring dishonor both in this world and in the afterlife, President Rouhani asked other countries to take lessons from the Iranian armed forces and mobilize their forces to safeguard peace.
“Why don’t they make use of the opportunity created by our armed forces? What does it mean to supply financial and military aid to terrorists in Syria? What does it mean to attack Yemen? What objectives are they pursuing? Does attacking children bring you honor? You have planted the seeds of hatred in the hearts of regional people and would face its response sooner or later,” he stated.
He went on to say the fact that Iran agreed to hold negotiations with major world powers on its nuclear energy program was to show to the world that a mighty nation like Iran holds it as an “honor” to respect and abide by regulations.
The president also congratulated the Iranian people, armed forces, particularly the army, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the families of the martyrs, veterans of the 1980-1988 Iraqi war against Iran, and other security personnel on Army Day.
He said the army played effective roles both during the 1979 Islamic Revolution, that toppled the Pahlavi Dynasty, and during the eight-year long assault of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to Iran.
Rouhani also appreciated the army’s obedience to late Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Revolution, as well as of the Supreme Leader.

In addition to Bavar-373 missile defense system, Rasoul and Fakour communications and commanding and smart control systems were also displayed during the parades.
The Bavar-373 long-range missile defense system, which is similar to the Russian S-300, is manufactured by Iranian defense experts and is capable of hitting air targets at a high altitude.
The Fakour commanding and smart control system has the ability to collect information from all sources relevant to air defense, including passive and active military radars, signal surveillance, missile systems and commanding and control systems. It can guide and control air-based and ground-based air defense systems in a completely tactical and independent way.
The Rasoul advanced communications system is capable of encoding information, connecting the country’s infrastructure and transferring radar information from the battle scene to commanding centers.
